Laurel Daunis-Allen is a New Jersey artist with Maine roots. Her father grew up in Maine & she has been painting its beauty ever since she was a young child. She has always been mesmerized and drawn to the big, bold rocks found in Maine, especially on the coast. In her most recent works, instead of painting rocks as part of a landscape, they have become the landscape. The paintings take on an abstract quality depending on how much detail is included and how close we see the rock surface. They are painted in black and white, so we experience the emotion, energy, and pattern of the stone without the distractions of color.
